Methyl isobutyl ketone, Chinese name: 甲基異丁基(甲)酮 、甲基異丁酮, English Name: methyl isobutyl ketone; MIBK, is a transparent liquid, mainly used as a solvent for spray paint, nitrocellulose, certain fiber ethers, camphor, grease, natural and synthetic rubber.
Use
It is a solvent for nitrocellulose, certain cellulose ethers, camphor, grease, paraffin, resin and spray paint, etc. It is also used in organic synthesis.
Synthesis method
It can be obtained by gentle hydrogenation of isopropylidene acetone or one-step method with acetone.
Storage and transportation
Precautions for storage and transportation: Store in a cool, ventilated warehouse. Keep away from fire and heat sources. The warehouse temperature should not exceed 30°C. Avoid direct sunlight. Keep the container tightly closed. It should be stored separately from oxidants. The lighting, ventilation and other facilities in the storage room should be explosion-proof. Fire-proof and explosion-proof technical measures shall be taken for storage in tanks. It is forbidden to use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks. When handling, load and unload with care to prevent damage to packaging and containers. ERG guideline: 127 ERG guideline classification: flammable liquid (polar/miscible with water).
Transport vehicles should be equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment during transportation. It is best to transport sooner or later in summer. The tank (tank) truck used during transportation should have a grounding chain, and a hole partition can be set in the tank to reduce vibration and static electricity. Mixed shipment and transportation with oxidants, reducing agents, alkalis, edible chemicals, etc. is strictly prohibited. Avoid exposure to the sun, rain, and high temperature during transportation. Stay away from fire, heat sources, and high-temperature areas during stopovers. The exhaust pipe of the vehicle carrying the item must be equipped with a fire arrester, and it is prohibited to use mechanical equipment and tools that are prone to sparks for loading and unloading. When transporting by road, follow the prescribed route and do not stop in residential or densely populated areas. It is forbidden to drop off during railway transportation. It is strictly forbidden to transport in bulk by wooden ships or cement ships.
Security information
Hazardous characteristics: Its vapor and air form an explosive mixture, which can cause combustion and explosion when exposed to open flames and high heat energy. It can react with oxidants. Its vapor is heavier than air and can spread to a considerable distance in a lower place, and it will cause back-combustion when it encounters an open flame. In case of high heat, the internal pressure of the container will increase and there is a danger of cracking and explosion. Dissolves certain plastics, resins and rubbers.
First Aid
Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothing and rinse with running water. Pay attention to the patient to keep warm and keep quiet. Ensure that medical staff understand the personal protection knowledge related to the substance and pay attention to their own protection.
Eye contact: Immediately open the upper and lower eyelids and rinse with running water for 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.
Inhalation: Leave the scene to a place with fresh air. Give oxygen when breathing is difficult. Once breathing stops, begin CPR immediately. Seek medical attention.
Ingestion: Give enough warm water to those who accidentally take it, induce vomiting, and seek medical attention.
Emergency treatment: Quickly evacuate personnel from the contaminated area to a safe area, isolate them, and strictly restrict access. Cut off the fire source. It is recommended that emergency response personnel wear self-contained positive pressure respirators and anti-virus suits. Cut off the source of leakage as much as possible. Prevent entry into restricted spaces such as sewers and flood drains. Small amount of leakage: absorb with sand, vermiculite or other inert materials. A large number of leaks: build a dike or dig a pit for storage. Cover with foam to reduce steam hazards. Spray water or foam to cool and dilute the steam to protect the on-site personnel. Use explosion-proof pump to transfer to tank truck or special collector, recycle or transport to waste disposal site for disposal.
Operation precautions: airtight operation, full ventilation. Operators must undergo special training and strictly abide by the operating procedures. It is recommended that operators wear filter-type gas masks (half-face masks), chemical safety glasses, protective overalls and rubber oil-resistant gloves. Keep away from fire and heat sources, and smoking is strictly prohibited in the workplace. Use explosion-proof ventilation systems and equipment. Prevent the vapor from leaking into the air in the workplace. Avoid contact with oxidants, reducing agents, acids and alkalis. When handling, load and unload with care to prevent damage to packaging and containers. Equipped with corresponding types and quantities of fire-fighting equipment and leakage emergency treatment equipment. Empty containers may be harmful residues.
Protection measures
Engineering control: Airtight operation, pay attention to ventilation.
Respiratory protection: When you may be exposed to its vapor, it is recommended to wear a gas mask. In high-concentration environments, self-contained breathing apparatus should be worn. NIOSH/OSHA500ppm: Respirator with anti-organic vapor with chemical box, full-facepiece respirator with organic vapor filter (gas mask), power-driven respirator with organic vapor filter, air-supply type Respirator, self-contained breathing apparatus. Emergency or planned entry into an area with unknown concentration, or in a situation that is immediately life-threatening or health-threatening: self-contained positive pressure full-face respirator, supplied-air positive pressure full-face respirator supplemented by auxiliary self-contained positive pressure respirator. Escape: Air-purifying full-face respirator (gas mask) with organic vapor filter box, self-contained escape respirator.
Eye protection: Wear chemical safety glasses when you may be exposed to its vapors.
Protective clothing: Wear anti-static overalls.
Hand protection: Wear protective gloves when exposed to high concentrations.
Others: Smoking is strictly prohibited at the work site. Avoid long-term repeated contact.
Leakage disposal: Cut off the fire source. Wear self-contained breathing apparatus and general fire-fighting protective clothing. Stop leaks while ensuring safety. Water spray can reduce evaporation. Rinse with plenty of water, and put the diluted lotion into the waste water system. If there is a large amount of leakage, use the embankment to contain it, and then collect, transfer, recycle or dispose of it after harmless treatment.
